A question about stove top sterilizers. [02 Feb 2006|04:56pm]

I've been sterilizing my gear at a friend's shop. Unfortunately, their Prestige died while sterilizing their last batch of tubes...and before I could do my pile of gear.

They felt bad about it so in the back of their shop, sitting dusty on a shelf, they have this steam stovetop sterilizer.
Someone gave it to them a couple years ago, but they've NEVER used one before themselves and there's no instructions.

How does one use these? I've always just had a regular electric autoclave at my disposal. I've never had to deal with one of these things. The first shop I worked at used one when their autoclave died, but to be honest, I wasn't around when they did it and am rather clueless.

Are these even viable?

A question for everyone (Xposted to all tattoo artist communities) [24 Apr 2005|09:48am]

I'm just curious about what needle groupings and inks that everyone else uses (including the best black tribal ink)and which black lining ink they use. Stainless autoclavable steel or all disposable tubes, tips and grips?

At both shops, no one used Mags swearing that they rip up the skin, but I played around and taught myself how to use them.
So for now, I use 3, 5 and 7 tights for my liners and 14r and 7 mags for my shaders. I'm also going to start using 7 ovals.

My inks are a combination of Milleniums, Intenze and Starbrite colors, with a Pelikan/Black Magic blend for lining (I hate it and am looking for something that stays blacker), and Starbrites Tribal Black for tribal work. Has anyone tried Kuro Sumi lining ink? Any good?

I'm currently on stainless steel equipment, but am switching to all disposable. Just worried that they won't work as well.

I'm always looking for better supplies and techniques which is why I'm asking.

Looking for supplies X-posted [22 Apr 2005|09:05pm]

I'm currently looking for a needle jig or a bar mounting jig.

Does anyone have a supplier that they've gotten one through that wasn't too costly? I'm running on a tight budget right now, but Camtattoo.com doesn't have jigs and unimaxsupply.com doesn't seem have one with a bar mount. I'm trying to stay within the $60-70 range if possible.

Any ideas?

I'm also in dire need of a dentists chair for my shop. I'm checking Ebay but shipping is miserable. Any suggestions for where I can find a good chair?

Massive bummer [20 Apr 2005|11:57am]

[ mood | angry ]

Just heard from a friend on one of my yahoo groups list that his entire shop was ripped off when he was out taking care of family business. Now he's screwed.
They took EVERYTHING. Flash, all of his machines, his autoclave, ultrasonic, ink, needles, computer, power supplies, cords, medical supplies, EVERYTHING. They didn't leave a fucking thing.

Just a friendly reminder to tattoo artists everywhere to keep a tight lid on your equipment lest someone tries to steal your livelihood.

Worst Clients? [10 Mar 2005|10:28am]

[ mood | busy ]

BMEzine.com just recently did an article where they interviewed piercers/tattoo artists about their worst client experiences. http://www.bmezine.com/news/pubring/20050220.html

Now I'm asking YOU guys...what is/was the worst experiences you've had with clients either piercing or tattooing?
How did you deal with them?

Don't hold back!

X post to a couple different communities.

Illinois Petition to make 18 the legal age for tattoos [09 Mar 2005|12:55pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

As some of you know the current legal age to get a tattoo in Illinois is 21, but there is a bill in the Senate(it passed the house a couple weeks ago) that would lower the age to 18.
For the bill to he heard in the Senate it needs a Senator to sponsor it.
A Chicago Tattoo artist set up this petition to make 18 the legal age for tattoos in the State of Illinois. PLEASE sign this petition so that Senator Cullerton can see that there are many supporters for the legalization of tattoos for 18 year olds.

If an 18 year old is able to live on their own, have an abortion, be legally responsible for themselves, die for their country and vote for who runs their country, they should have the legal right to decide whether or not they want to be tattooed.
